“This group begins work on my ‘list of complaints.’ Abstractly, the first complaint is against a limited concept of value or acceptable practice in photography. Concretely, this is using devices deemed déclassé or silly like very obvious effects filter, essentially pieces of plastic that refract, multiply or add color like a “sunset” effect. I was once explicitly told it was poor taste to photograph the sun and other light sources. The subject matter is purposefully non-exceptional, but the images were taken with a fancy 4x5” film camera for ‘gravitas.’”
